About the project

IN RESPONSE TO THE CURRENT COVID ISOLATION, MY RECENT MOVE FROM MY PLACE OF BIRTH IN SOUTH AFRICA TO A SOCIALLY DISTANCED VIENNA AND WITH THE NEED TO CONNECT TO BOTH PLACES, I WELCOMED COLLABORATIONS IN A SEARCH FOR SOLIDARITY.

18 July 2020 - Nelson Mandela Day.

With less stringent lockdown rules in Vienna, SADOCC celebrated Nelson Mandela Day on Nelson Mandela Platz in Vienna and becomes the host for a collective Solo Solidarity Future action and the reading of the quotes by Nelson Mandela that have been interpreted into beaded artworks by beaders in Nelson Mandela Bay.

18 July 2020 - Nelson Mandela Day.

The resulting designed symbols, representing the  collaborative speculations about our Human Rights of the Future, were presented on the same day in 3 cities in South Africa as an act of connection and solidarity. Bloemfontein, Nelson Mandela Bay and Soweto saw symbolic and meaningful moments of reflection and solidarity in a very difficult time in South Africa. The 4th iteration on the same day was in Vienna on the Nelson Mandela Platz, Seestadt as part of the Nelson Mandela Day celebrations.

18 July 2020 - Nelson Mandela Day.

While participants from Bloemfontein, Nelson Mandela Bay and Soweto presented symbolic and meaningful moments of reflection and solidarity in their cities, Marcus Neustetter responded in Vienna on the Nelson Mandela Platz, Seestadt as part of the Nelson Mandela Day celebrations organised by SADOCC with Nina Herzog and Helena Hornung. This was Neustetter's attempt to connect to his community in South Africa and a provocation for a meaningful development for the Nelson Mandela Platz in Seestadt, Vienna.
